Radiant façades
Salzburg
Salzburg, the most “Italian styled” of all cities north of the Alps, has given birth to one of Europe's most important shopping centre, realised by Massimiliano Fuksas, attract ing the attention both day and night. The building covers an area 320m long and 140m wide. In addition to a wide range of food halls, there are 120 other shops and 3000 parking places with a total site area of 120.000 m2. The double-skin façades also have the function of advertising space. In fact the logo EUROPARK is written with letters as high as the building itself which can be read around the perimeter of the façade and in such manner to give a three-dimensional effect, like a hologram. In the evening, the façades come alive, duplicating itself as a reflection from the surrounding water.Credits

The tecnology
Double-skin façades with screen-printed glass Roof-light glazing
The double-skin façades are definitely the most characterising element of this building. The first skin is made by a thermal break system (class 2.1 DIN 4108) which assures, through the structural silicone technology, a flat continuous homogeneous external surface thus concealing between them the opening and fixed parts. This total uniformity of the first skin is essential for the realisation of logo EUROPARK which is made by letters 9m high and 4m wide obtained by dots fritted on the surface of the glass. The second skin is made by a pane of glass again fritted with the same letters as the first one, located at 150mm from the other and anchored by aluminium fusion to the external skin. The maintenance of the curtain walling is accessed through a special system which opens and closes and makes the cavity accessible. All the mechanisms and the ironmongery of the smoke exhaust are concealed. Both the sloped and vertical curtain wall which constitute the sky-light are fully glazed. The smoke exhaust openings are fully integrated with the above.
