Serafico 200
Rome
The scope of works for the project at via del Serafico 200, Rome, involved the removal of the existing façade, and the design, supply and installation of a new external wall system, as described later. It was anticipated that the building would remain operational during the construction works, for this reason safety issues in particular at the main entrance and at public areas externally were given top priority and the need to prevent unnecessary disruption and noise during office working hours were also of prime importance. The installation was organised in such a manner that not more than five days would lapse between the removal of the old façade from an area and its replacement with a new unitised panel.Credits

The tecnology
Unitised curtain walling with structurally silicone bonded glazing units (12.000 mq.)
The design of the project consisted of a unitised system of extruded aluminium profiles which were thermally coloured, onto which double glazed units were structurally silicone bonded, this allowed Focchi to conform with certain requirements of the client, both during construction and for the finished building e.g.
- The units system was assembled in certain areas without the DGU in place, e.g., if there were temporary site works, or support brackets for the hoist etc. (the DGU was glazed in later)
- Structural Silicone DGU’s are easily replaced in the event of breakage, from the outside of the building, causing minor disturbance to the internal occupants.
- In the case of future expansion of a whole wing of the building, or even the addition of a single opening light the units system can be modified due to the flexibility of the design.
