Access to the balconies is via sliding doors; glass balustrades are installed to the exposed sides of the balcony.

The balustrade meet a solid column in the far corner, the column is composed of an aluminium frame unit clad in rainscreen panels, as the main cladding.
Concealed rainwater pipes rundown through this unit from the terrace above to the ground.

Rainscreen cladding to the balcony includes light fittings. Single/double doors are installed in some of the balconies.

The main cladding is composed of vision and spandrel unitized system. The vision units feature a capped system to the east and west elevations while glass is structurally bonded for the north and south elevations.

A fix louvre profile installed on top of the vision units allow for apartments air intake/extract requirements, a plenum is concealed inside the unit and connected to the ventilation system.

To the outside, an aluminium hidden frame support the rainscreen panels cladding creating a thicker unit. These panels are made of 3 mm thick aluminium in three different finishes, achieving the appearance of the building.

Natural anodizing finish combined with different manufacturing processes such as brushing and polishing provide a colour and shade variation of the whole building when viewed from different angles and heights.

Live Project

The architecture of Atlas Building is a simple, yet striking, concept.
The architectural concept of the Residential building is based on a triangular footprint with a series of blades articulating the elevations.

The façade is divided into twelve blades facing east or west. Each of these blades is perforated according to the habitable room design of the internal layouts at each floor level, and work together to provide the building’s formal composition.

The materiality of the Residential building blades is predominantly light grey white, composed of aluminium rainscreen panels with three panel finishes to add the colour variation.

The palette was selected at Planning design stage to introduce interest when viewing the building at different scales and to provide subtle changes in expression throughout the day and the different seasons. It was also selected to achieve a timeless yet modern quality and to fit in well with the character of the new buildings in the immediate area.

The project location is 145 City Road, London, located 150m north of Old Street roundabout and is located circa 0.5miles north of City of London.
